"Is That What You Call Hustling?"

This morning the girls reminded me that they needed a quarter to buy a freeze pop during their P.E. time today. Well, I never carry cash on me and when you tell me the day of, I might be able to rustle up 50 pennies, but that's A LOT of change to have to carry. So...I asked Cecily (who always seems to have money) , "Let mommy borrow a quarter and I will give the money back to you. She said, "Okay, but you owe me a dollar then." I was like, "What?? I don't owe you a dollar, I just need a quarter. I owe you a quarter. One quarter for one quarter." I thought she must be confused because after all she is just in the first grade and maybe she was sleeping when they went over money.
Obviously not! She said, "No, if I give you a quarter, you will owe me $1.00 when you pay it back." (Maybe this is why she always has money).
I said, "No missy I don't think so. You will GIVE me a quarter OR you can just forget the freeze pop today, how about that?" She was like, "Okay, you can have the quarter. " And then she said the funniest thing, " Is that what you call hustling?"
That alone made me laugh. Where is she learning things like hustling??? I asked her that question and she said, "I don't know, but remember Ariel tried to hustle that man out of $5.00 by selling her raincoat to him when we got off of Kali River Rapids at Disney World. (Ariel really did try to do this and the funny thing was the man was going to pay her for it. I told her no way and made her just give the raincoat, which only cost me 50 cents, to the man.). I had to explain that hustling really isn't an attribute that we are trying to achieve, but there is nothing wrong with trying to be an entrepreneur.
Donald Trump better watch out because if he bumps into my two girls, he may meet his match. I think Mike and I are going to have our hands full with these two.
