The Music of the Night

I must admit, my family is not like most families, this is our first year watching American Idol. For real. Not kidding. The first season it came on I remember watching the auditions and loving Simon's honest critiques of those trying out, even finding humor in it. My humor is what stopped me from continuing. Mike happen to walk through the room to see what I was laughing at, and thought it was appalling that someone was "tearing down someones self-esteem" and that I, and millions of others watching was finding humor in it. He asked me to not watch it, and for some reason, I guess deep down I thought that he had a point, so I listened. I stopped watching after a half an episode. However, I guess this year, with the writer's strike happening, I caught myself watching, this time with the girls. What can I say? We got hooked. We all have our favorites and those we cheer and Cecily definitely has her jeers. Let's just say, America gave her a great big birthday present last night .
I have to say we have enjoyed it, and I happen to agree with Simon most of the time. I find his criticism constructive. Although, I guess if it were me up there being critiqued it would be a bit humiliating, but here's the difference: I know I can't sing, so I would never put myself in the predicament.
Anyway, this week, was Andrew Lloyd Webber Week. That man is BRILLIANT, in my opinion, and Ariel's too. After watching this week, she has become a huge fan of his music even asking me to post some of his songs to my playlist. Her favorite? The Music of the Night. When she gets up, she wants to put on my playlist and listen to it. She keeps asking me when will she be old enough to go and see "The Phantom of the Opera".
Who would have thought that I would be using American Idol to help me help my children find a little culture? Go figure...

Yay! i have a lot to comment on! Happy birthday Cecily!!! Quite the birth story! Isn't the adrenaline rush that comes with natural labor funny? I always feel like wonder woman a few minutes after delivering! Mike did well with all that excitement-I don't know if Kit could have dealt with it!

I can picture you and your girls snuggling down to watch American Idol...you make me smile. I LOVE the Phantom of the Opera. Ariel has wonderful taste of music!
