Yesterday, was a pretty fun day, but I was worn out when it was over. I think I was actually asleep by 9pm. We started the day a little late because we thought we were going to get a visit from Mike's uncle Cecil, which we always love. He is one of the kindest man I have ever met and the girls absolutely adore him. Unfortunately, he was unable to make it. We hope that we can see him soon.
Once we got ourselves together, we headed out to Special Olympics. This has become a family tradition. We love volunteering for this. Although, I have to admit, the girls did not enjoy it as much as they have in the past. But I remind them, that service is not always "fun", but it is rewarding. We really try hard to make service a part of their life. It is so important to learn how to be a giver and not always looking to receive.
Ariel did enjoy that she got to hold the tape at the finish line for the athletes to run through. Actually she loved it. Ariel also got to catch up with one of the Olympians that she has become friends with over the years. I don't really recall how this friendship came into being, but Ariel seeks out Bill Barrow every year. And every year, he not only remembers her and her birthday, but the rest of our family as well. He really is a sweet man. Ariel really enjoys listening to his stories. These athletes are amazing to watch and are such great examples of not giving up even when things get hard. They remind me that it doesn't matter what place you finish in as long as you finish and do your best. Isn't that such a great lesson?
We ended yesterday playing at Cottage Hill Park with our friends, the Jordan's. The girls had fun playing with Ross and Owen and throwing the football around with Ross' dad, Jason. It was a good, but long day. That is a true sign that I am getting old, because I was ready for bed before the girls were.
Today, was such a nice day. The weather was beautiful. The children in primary were fun to be with and I enjoyed the talks in sacrament meeting. We came home and pretty much took it easy.
Now here's to tomorrow being as wonderful. The girls are starting back at school and I'm actually counting down for when summer vacation starts myself. This past week was so nice, not having to be on a schedule. I will be subbing tomorrow for a second grade class so that should be exciting. Cecily has been talking about her birthday being this week, so that should be fun too. Here's to a great week ahead!
