Many of you know, we have a pool. Which Mike HATES. He wants to fill it in, but I have convinced him that we should try keeping it for just a year and see how it goes. I guess I should say, I kept talking about it so much, that he got tired of hearing me talk, and just finally agreed. LOL. Well, now summer is approaching and we are totally "pool maintenance stupid", and the pool was a yucky green color. I say was, because we have managed to change it from the green to a cloudy blue color. I think Mike is a bit leery to go into a real pool place to ask for help because 1)he's afraid they may tell him to drain the pool and start over and 2)he doesn't want them to try to sell him things we don't need. Soooo, instead he does what many men do...just bring it up in casual conversation and maybe, just maybe, someone will know something ,and he can figure out what needs to be done. Problem is, now we have been given about 2o different solutions and we are on solution #3.
We have been vacuuming the pool, scrubbing the sides, skimming the stuff out from the top--just trying to do whatever to get it clear. I have to admit is is A LOT of work, but I can't complain because Mike would be happy to quit and fill it in. We now know for sure though, that we need A LOT more of the "shock treatment stuff" and we need to leave the pump running (which Mike sees as dollar signs). Last night, when we went to sleep, he tried to shut it off, but I said, "Honey we've got to leave it running. I know it will be clear in the morning if we do." Last night, we were serenaded to sleep by the humming of the pump. How beautiful is that! As soon as Mike woke up this morning, he ran outside to check the pool (it has become quite the project)---NOPE, still not clear, but IT IS more blue than green. That's what I keep telling Mike, at least. (Remember, I want to keep this thing). LOL. I finally found a website that may help us. I'm hoping that when we get back from my mom's, Mike will have figured it out and I will see a sparkling clear blue pool. I mean come on it's gotta eventually happen, right? Here's to hoping!

Good Luck with the pool thing. It took my parents several years to figure out how to get it "in shape" for the summer. Once it's there ya'll will love it, though.
Hey this is Dewayne
Carly was telling me about this post.
All my life we have had a pool so My dad and I could possibly give you some tips however the pool (chemical place ) is the best place for Chemistry questions.
Once you get it clear it is easy to maintain it.
If you have trees purchase a leaf bagger.(it is a net bag that has an attachment for your water hose its wonderful and worth its weight in gold.) there is also some relatively inexpensive automatic vacuums that plug into your skimmer. They are not perfect but the less time you have to spend vacuuming the more pleasurable it will be. Also DO YOU HAVE AN AUTOMATIC CHLORINEATOR?? that is the cylinder that you place the tablets in and only have to fill it about once a week. (if you don't let me know, If you buy it I WILL PUT IT IN FOR YOU. this little beauty keeps your pool clear and you only have to shock after a big rain or big party.
As far as your pool pump
They build those pumps to where they are pretty efficient. There is 2 ways to wire them up though.
If your breaker is double pole or has 2 switches with a bar connecting, it is wired up the cheaper, most efficient way which is 220volt. If there is only a single pole or (one switch it is 110v and that is not as efficient)
The summer time is not the time to try and save money on the power bill with a pool because it can turn green over night, it does not cost all that much to just leave them running. The power company can give you a breakdown on about how much it cost to run it.
In the winter is when you save, You just run it during the day and shut it off at night.
Any way if you have any questions just ask anytime!!
