The Warm & Fuzzy
We live in a world it seems, at least to me, that likes to focus on the negatives. How bad the world is, how bad the people are, how bad the leaders are...bad, bad, bad. Some days I feel consumed with it, and I catch myself never looking for the good. Then, the other day,as I read my friend, Annie's blog, I was reminded about how much good there is in the world when you truly look for it (and usually you don't have to look that hard or far). She said that she likes to reflect on the things in her life that makes her happy and she listed some of the sweetest things. It made me realize recognizing the GOOD is an attitude. It's all in the way you look at it. If you want to find good, it is there. If all your searching for is bad, then that is what you will find. I know Oprah used to say, (she may still say it, but I don't know because I don't get to watch her anymore) that you should keep a gratitude journal and write down at least 5 things every day that you're thankful for. She promised that it would change your life. Well, I never did it, so I can't say that it would. However, it seems the Lord has been trying hard to help me to focus on the good lately, because today my heart was touched again in a room full of kindergarteners. The teacher I subbed (well, not really, but that's another blog) for today, always starts her children's day with the "WARM & FUZZY". At first I was like, "WHAT?" Well, I quickly learned that the warm and fuzzy is just a fuzzy ball made out of yarn (nothing fancy). Whoever is the leader for the day stands in front of the room and the warm and fuzzy is passed to everyone and they have to say something nice about that person. It ends with the leader holding the warm & fuzzy and saying something nice about themself. It was very touching to hear these little children stop at the beginning of the day to recognize the good in another. It touched me so much that I'm going to make a WARM & FUZZY for our family to have at home and we will do it every morning when we gather for prayer. Those kindergarteners taught me today that it is hard to notice the bad when your concentrating on the good. So my new goal is to keep a separate journal, a thankful journal and I do believe that it WILL change my life because I think it already has!
